Concerta 54mg
USES
Concerta is used for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It
works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. Methylphenidate belongs to a class of
drugs known as stimulants. It may help you pay more attention and keep
your mind on the task at hand. It can also be used to help you organize
your tasks and improve your listening skills.
How to
Use Concerta
Before
you begin taking methylphenidate, and every time you refill your prescription,
make sure you read the Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if
you have questions.
Take
this medication by mouth with or without food as
directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. Insomnia can
occur if you take this medication too late in the morning.
Take
this medication with a glass of water (8 ounces/240 mL). Concerta should not be crushed or chewed. This can cause the drug to be released
all at once, which could increase the chance of side effects. If the score
line is indicated by your pharmacist or doctor, you should not break the
tablets. You can swallow the whole tablet or a portion of it without
crushing or chewing.
To get
the best benefit, you should take this medication on a regular basis. Take
it every day at the same time to help you remember.
Side
Effects
Nervousness,
difficulty sleeping, headaches, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, anxiety,
dizziness and weight gain may all occur. If any of these effects persist
or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
You
may find an empty tablet shell in your stool. This effect is harmless
because your body has already absorbed the medication.
Your
doctor may have prescribed the medication to you because he/she believes that
it is more beneficial than side effects. This medication is not known to
cause serious side effects in many people.
This
medication may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell
your doctor if the results are high.
Precautions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist before you take methylphenidate. Also,
ask about any allergies to dexmethylphenidate or methylphenidate. Inactive
